After her older brother goes missing on an adventure, Ary’s father finds himself crippled by grief and unable to tend to his duties as the kingdom of Valdi’s Guardian of Winter. You can find this game for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PC, and Xbox from most game retailers, including Amazon! Disclaimer: As an Amazon Associate I do earn from qualifying purchases.Ary and the Secret of Seasons is a Zelda-style action-adventure game that tells the story of Aryelle, a peppy young girl from the snowy mountaintop village of Yule. Honestly, the game is beautiful and definitely deserves far more attention than what it’s received so far! Due to the glitches, I have to give this a generous 8/10. I expected more from a game with that price tag, but the things that made me fall in love with the game also leave me feeling like that price tag could be worth it. The glitches and the somewhat abrupt ending to the story left me a little disappointed despite my overall love for the game.

However, I hate to admit that I am glad I didn’t pay the full $39.99 price tag. At 75% off, I 100% believe that ten dollars was worth it. Now for the ultimate question: is the price tag justifiable? Honestly, I snagged this on sale for only $10. Given the ending of the game, I could see sequel games being a hit in the future! I know I would play them and am hoping for more that will, hopefully, get to stay in production long enough that they aren’t so glitchy. Sorry.ĭespite its flaws, I still loved Ary and the Secret of Seasons. The game has a good story overall and varying challenges and bosses that keep it from being repetitive. You can’t tell me that only one person still lives in this place, I’m just not buying that. While the story does attempt explain the lack of basically anything in this region, I felt that the explanation didn’t necessarily fit the absence of a community. The fall biome, Samhain, seems to have been cut short. Some of the puzzles are a little too puzzling or have little (or no) clues as to what is supposed to be done in order to move on.

The software closed on me multiple times because of an in-game error and the loading screen seems to last forever. Parts of the game do feel somewhat rushed, including the final boss battle. And why you should never anger a girl with a sword. The story is pleasant and provides some twists and unexpected moments as well as some that I can’t believe I didn’t see coming. The commentary is highly amusing! I can’t tell you how many times I legitimately laughed out loud during this game (see images below for just a few moments). My new favorite insult, thanks to this game, is actually “son of a cow!”.She faces her demons without wavering and takes them down with a healthy helping of sass on the side. Ary is the character I wanted to see and be able to play as when I was a child: a young girl who is strong and determined. Each of the biomes has stunning and varying terrain which fits with the seasons that typically dominate each biome. The animation and scenery in this game are well done.

Ary is one fierce warrior!Īs with every game, Ary and the Secret of Seasons has its fair share of pros and cons.

Ary cuts her hair and dons her brother Flynn’s clothes before setting off to restore the balance of the seasons and thwart the dark wizard. The story starts out much like Mulan where Ary decides to go against her family’s wishes and attend a council meeting that traditionally would only be attended by her father or older brother. Ary and the Secret of Seasons is an open-world adventure in which the main character, Arielle, or Ary, as she prefers to be called, is tasked with saving the world she lives in.
